Election Buzz

– Nkaiso Akpan, Rivers State

“A lot of activity is taking place right now in Rumuagholu town, a community under the Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state. Schools have shut down. Some have travelled home to their villages where they had their voters card registered. The markets are crowded with buyers who want to stock their houses ahead of the election and vendors are making a lot of profit by inflating prices of goods. The banks were crowded earlier today as people queued to either pay in money to their loved ones or withdraw ahead of the weekend. The filling stations are not left out; people are queuing to fill their tanks and jerry cans to enable them power their generators for news updates. There is a rumour of a curfew in Rivers state restricting the movement of people after 6pm. It is really a ‘bee-hive’ experience down here.”
